Male Body Types
Men's body shapes are based on the relationship between shoulders, chest, waist, and hips.
What is Waist-Hip Ratio (WHR)?
WHR = Waist circumference ÷ Hip circumference. A person with a 28" waist and 38" hip has a WHR of 0.74.
Research shows WHR is a stronger predictor of cardiovascular disease than BMI alone. People with more abdominal fat ("apple shapes") face higher health risks than those with fat distributed around hips ("pear shapes").
Fertility: Women with WHR between 0.70–0.79 have significantly higher pregnancy rates. Men with WHR ~0.9 tend to be healthier with lower risk of prostate and testicular cancer.
Important: WHR is just one metric. Consult a healthcare professional for a complete health picture.
